Eldad ha-Dani

(fl. 9th cent)
Traveller. His origins are obscure. He claimed to belong to the tribe of Dan, and asserted that the tribes of Dan, Naphtali, Gad and Asher formed an independent kingdom in Africa. He visited Jewish communities in North Africa and Spain. The Kairouan community sought the opinion of the gaon Tzemah about the halakhic practices described by him.
